How You Can Receive Eternal Life

by Roger Hicks

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”(Romans 3:23)
The Bible clearly tells us that every person has sinned, and thereby separated themselves from God.

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.”
(Isaiah 64:6)
The scriptures declare that no matter how “good” a life a person has lived, how “moral” their actions, or how “religious” they are … it is as filthy rags compared to the Holiness of God.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)
“Wages” are payment for something a person has done. When we work on a job, then we’re paid “wages” for what we’ve done. Likewise, when we sin, we’re owed “wages” for those actions. We deserve “death” (spiritual death … which is eternal separation from ), but God so loves us that He has made provision to “redeem us” from that “death.”

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
God, in His encompassing love for us, didn’t wait for us to “get our lives straightened out,” because He knew we couldn’t do that without His help. Instead, he made provision to adopt us into His family, just the way we are, and “then” He’ll help us straighten out … “whatever needs fixing”.

“Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead … Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:10, 12)
Sometimes people think that it’s not really all that important what religion a person embraces, just as long as they adhere to some religion. The Bible states unequivocally that there is only one way to get to heaven … and that “ONE WAY” is through Jesus Christ. Some people disagree with this scripture, but it’s God’s Holy Word! When your eternal destiny is at stake, are you willing to take someone else’s word over the Word of the Living God?

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
(Romans 10:13)
This scripture tells us … “Eternal Life with God” is available to “whosoever.” We didn’t deserve this wonderful promise, but God desires to spend eternity with us. What He requires, in order for us to inherit this “eternal life” is … for us to “call upon the name of the Lord.” Another way of saying that is … to make Jesus the “Lord” or “Master” of our life. Jesus has to stand in the place of “Lordship” … in order for us to be “saved”. That word … “saved” … comes from a Greek word meaning “preserved.” If we actually make Jesus the “Lord, Master, Boss, and the One who calls the shots” then we are saved or preserved from eternal damnation. “Eternal damnation” is to be eternally separated from God and His Goodness, and taken to a place of eternal punishment. Being a good moral person won’t save you. Being a member of the best church in town won’t save you. Only making Jesus Christ the “Master” of your life can save you. Jesus has to be “Lord of ALL” … or He’s not “Lord … at all!”

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Romans 10:9-10)
Our confession of the “Lordship of Jesus” is an absolute necessity in order for salvation to take place.

“Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
(Mark 8:38)
There is no such thing as a “Secret Service Christian!” Jesus, Himself, said that if we wanted to keep His Lordship over our life a secret, then He’d be ashamed to claim us as His, on Judgment Day. Our mouth has to declare the Lordship of Jesus. Some people think their walk with Jesus is private…but Jesus said it is to be public knowledge. We must confess (say with our mouth) that He is Lord and Master of our life.

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3)
Jesus taught that a person couldn’t get to heaven unless they were (as He called it) “born again”. He said it was impossible to see the kingdom of God without the “New Birth” experience. And Jesus Christ was God in the flesh. So, He would know!

If you’d like to become a “Born Again Christian” then why not accept Jesus as Lord, Master, and Saviour of your life, right now, by praying this prayer from your heart:

Heavenly Father, I come to you in the name of Jesus. I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that I need a Saviour. I believe that you sent Jesus Christ to shed His blood as payment for my sins. I accept His sacrifice on my behalf, and I thank you that I’m forgiven. I ask Jesus to come into my heart and become my Master and the Lord of my life. I surrender all to Him and ask Him to teach me and use me for His Glory. Father, I thank you that … Jesus … just now… came into my heart, and I am now a “Born-Again Christian”. Amen.

Now, tell someone what you’ve done. Proudly tell of your decision to make Jesus your Lord. If there’s nobody present with you, then pick up the phone and call someone and tell them. (If you don’t know anybody to call, get the phone book, and look up a Charismatic Church, and call that number. Keep trying. Find someone to tell. They’ll help you, encourage you, teach you, and welcome you into their midst.
